Piriformis syndrome is a chronic muscle disorder in which the piriformis muscle in the buttocks irritates the sciatic nerve. Compression of the sciatic nerve could be caused by pressure on the piriformis muscle while sitting in a car, running, or climbing stairs. This uncommon syndrome can be identified by intense pain, tingling, or numbness in the buttocks or down the leg.

Treatment Options
Treatment for this disorder can include medication, prescriptions, massage therapy, physiotherapeutic exercise, and PNF stretching.
